Late Tuesday on August 2 the legislation by Italian parliamentary commission has approved law banning women to wearing veils and cover the face in public in Italy.
The head of the UCOII (Union of Islamic Communities in Italy), Izzeddin Elzir said that in his 20 years in Italy he doesn’t think he has seen ten women who wear the veil. He also described that almost all of Muslim in Italy doesn’t require women to keep their faces covered to the Islam school. Elzir told that there are more, because there are lots of tourists from Arabic countries in summer but in here (Italy) he sees few cases.
A member of Silvio Berlusconi’s party which is a party with fascist roots, Souad Sbai says “I feel humiliated having to talk about burqas. I never saw burqas [as a child in Morocco]. Why do I see them here?” Sbai is also the former member of the National Alliance. She also said that it isn’t religious and it’s not Islamic. She thinks that it’s discrimination against women.
The president of activist group’s Roberto Malini said that the reason for the burqa is worn is to hide the woman, to limit her expression. He also said that everything they do is to seed the fear of Islam.
